TORBA MONASTERY
Gornate Olona, Italy
2025
On the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of FAI and on the birthday of its founder, Giulia Maria Crespi, the Monastery of Torba in Gornate Olona (Varese) — the first property acquired by the Foundation — was officially dedicated to her.
Riva1920 was invited to collaborate on the project directly by architect Mario Botta, with whom the company has a long-established professional relationship developed through previous interventions. Riva1920 contributed its technical and manufacturing expertise through the creation of an altar, a lectern, and four stools from the Clessidra collection.
The altar, defined by a trapezoidal geometry, is composed of vertical solid oak slats anchored to a central load-bearing slab. The structure is integrated into a base of honed white beola stone, set flush with the floor. The lectern, also in solid oak and likewise designed by Botta, echoes the altar’s formal language, ensuring aesthetic and functional coherence throughout the liturgical ensemble.
