Sustainable designer furniture in solid lebanese cedar wood

The Excellence of Cedar Wood Furniture

The Cedro Collection by Riva1920 is an exclusive selection of designer furniture crafted from solid Lebanese cedar wood. Each piece is created from the recovery of majestic cedar trunks, meticulously worked using artisanal techniques that enhance the natural grain and the unmistakable balsamic fragrance of the wood.

This collection embodies the essence of sustainable furniture, as it utilizes reclaimed wood from naturally fallen trees or those removed for safety reasons by private individuals and municipalities—wood that would otherwise go to waste. The result is a perfect harmony between innovative design and environmental responsibility, without the use of chemical treatments that could alter the natural characteristics of the material.

The Authentic Beauty of Cedar Wood

This prized, aromatic cedar wood stands out for its unique grain patterns and its ability to evolve over time. Since the trunks are not artificially dried, natural cracks and material shifts may occur as the wood settles. These organic changes highlight the vitality and authenticity of the material, making every piece truly one-of-a-kind.

The collection features a diverse range of designs, from geometric and structured shapes to more fluid, artistic lines. Tables, stools, bookshelves, consoles, benches, and armchairs become striking furniture elements that seamlessly blend functionality with aesthetics, making them ideal for those seeking visually and emotionally impactful designer pieces.

From Nature to Design: The Crafting Process

Recovery and Selection of TrunksThe cedar trunks are carefully stored in a dedicated production facility, where the rich, enveloping scent of the wood fills the air, bearing witness to its exceptional quality and authenticity.

Cutting and ShapingUsing state-of-the-art machinery, the trunks are cut into precise forms. For stools and coffee tables, cross-sections of the trunks are used, while benches are crafted from longitudinal cuts that highlight the natural grain of the wood. Smaller decorative items are created from production offcuts, ensuring that waste is minimized and every part of the tree is utilized.

Smoothing and FinishingEach piece undergoes meticulous smoothing to achieve a uniform and pleasant surface. This manual finishing process enhances the inherent beauty of the cedar wood, preserving its natural elegance and refined appearance.

Cedro Vulcano: The Beauty of Charred Wood

A distinctive feature of the Cedro Collection is the Cedro Vulcano finish, created using the Shou Sugi Ban technique, an ancient Japanese method of cedarwood preservation. Through controlled surface charring, the cedar takes on an intense, deep black hue with a textured finish, where the grain is accentuated in striking relief.

Collaborations with Renowned Designers

Over the years, numerous internationally renowned architects and designers have chosen to work with this noble reclaimed material, valued for its characteristic fragrance and its natural resistance to moths and fungi. These visionaries have experimented with new forms and proportions, creating iconic pieces that define the Riva1920 brand.

Among these, the Molletta bench by Baldessari & Baldessari, the Curve bench by Brodie Neill, the Clessidra stool by Mario Botta, the Dadone stool by Andrea Castrignano, and the Maui armchair by Terry Dwan stand out as signature designs. Other renowned names, including Michele De Lucchi, Alessandro Mendini, Karim Rashid, Pininfarina, Mario Bellini, and Marc Sadler, have left their mark on the Cedro Collection, further enriching it with groundbreaking furniture pieces.
