Sustainable furniture crafted from reclaimed wine barrel wood
The New Life of Barrique Wood
The Barrique Collection by Riva1920 represents excellence in sustainable furniture, transforming reclaimed wood from decommissioned wine barrels into extraordinary designer furnishings. Each piece in the collection is born from the fusion of craftsmanship, aesthetics, and environmental responsibility, giving new life to Barrique wood and 10,000-liter barrels once used in the production of Barolo wine.
These reclaimed wood furnishings are not just pieces of furniture—they are works of art that tell a story and embody sustainability. The result is a unique collection, where reclaimed wood is transformed into high-end furniture, perfect for wine cellars, restaurants, wineries, and spaces dedicated to wine enthusiasts.
The "Barrique: The New Life of Wood" project was launched in 2012 through a collaboration between Riva1920 and San Patrignano, with the aim of giving new life to Barrique wood. Over time, Riva1920 expanded the initiative to include the recovery of 10,000-liter barrels used in Barolo production, pushing the concept of reclaimed barrel wood furniture even further.
Renowned designers and architects have contributed their creativity to this collection, including Michele de Lucchi, Mario Botta, Aldo Cibic, Karim Rashid, Giuliano Cappelletti, Carlo Colombo, Alessandro Mendini, Alessandro Pedron, Luca Scacchetti, Chiara Ferragamo, Davide Rocchi, Riccardo Arbizzoni, Alberto Meda, Marc Sadler, Franco and Matteo Origoni, Aldo Spinelli, Anna Zegna, Matteo Thun, Terry Dwan, Claudio Bellini, Paolo Nava, Pierluigi Cerri, and Valerio Cometti.
These visionary designers have skillfully reinterpreted Barrique wood, creating timeless furniture pieces that blend heritage with contemporary aesthetics.
Originally used for wine aging, barrel wood undergoes a natural transformation, becoming even more captivating and valuable. Without a recovery initiative, barrels are typically discarded after three harvests. However, each stave carries the marks of time and the wine it once held, making every piece unique in grain, curvature, and natural patina.
Through the Barrique Collection, this noble material finds new life in wine-inspired furniture and exclusive designer décor, making it a statement piece for refined spaces.
Riva1920 has always embraced a responsible approach to production, using reclaimed wood to reduce environmental impact and preserve natural resources. The Barrique Collection is a testament to this philosophy—an outstanding example of how sustainable furniture can combine aesthetics, functionality, and environmental respect.
Each piece in the collection is the result of meticulous craftsmanship, highlighting the natural beauty of premium wood and ensuring furniture that lasts for generations.
