Solid wood and marble: a balance of material and form

Suiseki Collection

Suiseki, literally “stone shaped by water”, gives its name to the Riva1920 collection designed by Tollgard & Castellani, inspired by the Japanese tradition of collecting and contemplating natural stones capable of evoking landscapes and forms found in nature.

From this inspiration comes a collection in which solid wood meets marble, edges become softer and geometries take on organic forms. Table, side tables, console and Heiko chair come together in a harmonious ensemble, defined by soft volumes, balanced proportions and a strong sculptural presence.

At the heart of the collection is the Suiseki Table, featuring an oval solid wood top with a marble insert, supported by three legs arranged orthogonally. The same design language continues in the Suiseki Side Tables, conceived to create compositions at different heights, and in the Suiseki Console, which brings the collection’s distinctive forms to the wall. Completing the collection is Heiko, a chair characterised by a three-legged solid wood frame, with soft, enveloping forms. The upholstered seat and backrest introduce an element of comfort that balances the solidity of the wood, creating a harmony of essentiality, softness and sculptural presence consistent with the collection’s design language.
