Benches News 2025, Riva1920 9th Design Awards Collection
From the encounter between emerging creativity and artisanal tradition comes an exclusive collection of solid wood benches, sculpted from a single block to enhance the strength and authentic beauty of the material. Each bench tells a story, transforming fragrant Lebanese Cedar into a distinctive signature, with fluid and essential forms that naturally dialogue with space.
A collection born from the Riva1920 9th Design Awards “Light Up Your Idea”, the international competition that Riva1920 dedicated to the design of outdoor benches and tables. Talented designers from all over the world interpreted Cedar with creativity and respect, elevating its aesthetic and functional qualities. A noble wood, also perfect for outdoor use thanks to its remarkable resistance to humidity and weather.
WRAP
designed by LualdiMeraldi Studio
Year: 2025
Bench in solid scented cedar wood, carved from a single block. The design stands out for its sinuous, enveloping shape, inspired by a rolled-up sheet of paper, which creates a contrast between the solidity of the solid wood and the visual perception of lightness and softness. A slightly off-centre nautical rope detail emphasises this effect, giving the idea of holding the volume in an enveloped position.
TRAVETTO
designed by Studio Sostanza
Year: 2025
Bench in solid scented cedar wood, made entirely from a single block and characterised by an elongated, linear shape reminiscent of a balance beam. The structure is enriched by two large niches at the ends, designed as storage compartments for books, magazines or textiles, keeping the seating surface free. The base, made from the same block, is slightly tapered, raising the bench off the ground and leaving the ends overhanging to emphasise its visual lightness while ensuring solidity and stability.
CE(D)RINO
designed by Domenico Orefice & Claudia Valeriani
Year: 2025
Bench in solid scented cedar wood, made from a single block. The design is inspired by the shape of a matchstick, highlighted by the "vulcano" finish on one end of the bench, which is enlarged and rounded to resemble the head of a matchstick.
BECCO
designed by Alessandro Oberti
Anno: 2025
Bench in solid scented cedar wood, characterised by shapes reminiscent of the tapered profile of a swan's beak. The design stands out for the inclusion of a curved metal element integrated into the base. The curved line not only conveys a sense of lightness and dynamism but also performs a structural function, ensuring stability and strength.
BRUCO
designed by LCB.2M
Year: 2025
This bench, made from a single block of solid cedar of Lebanon wood, is characterised by a harmonious fusion of four spheres that recalls the organic shape of a caterpillar. The workmanship highlights an alternation of full and empty spaces that gives it visual lightness while maintaining the strength and solidity typical of the wood.
